6 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 2000):Yankee prospect D'Angelo Jimenez suffers a broken neck when a car he is driving in the Dominican Republic collides with a bus. Jimenez is not paralyzed but will miss the 2000 season. He figured to be the Yankee reserve infielder, taking over the role that Luis Sojo, now with the Pirates, filled last season.
8 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 1998):Minor league 1B Doug Blosser is killed in an automobile accident in Sarasota, Florida.
6 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 1980):Nelson Doubleday and Fred Wilpon head a group of investors which purchases the New York Mets for a reported $21.1 million, the highest price paid to date for a ML baseball franchise. Doubleday, whose publishing company supplied 80 percent of the purchase price, will serve as chairman of the board, while Wilpon, a former teammate of Sandy Koufax's at Brooklyn's Lafayette High School, will be president and chief operating officer.
33 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 1973):Warren Spahn is elected to the Hall of Fame in his first try on the BBWAA ballot, receiving 316 of 380 votes
44 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 1962):The Southern Association, which lost New Orleans and Memphis in the last two years and with attendance lagging, suspends operation.

91 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 1915):In a retreat from the FL competition, the Baltimore Orioles of the International League move to Richmond, VA. With the demise of the FL, the Orioles will return to Baltimore
93 YEARS AGO TODAY (January 24, 1913):In a story in the New York Times, Detroit Tiger President Frank Navin blames the length of the games on the "coachers boxes." Navin, reacting to American League President Ban Johnson's complaint that too many games the previous season had taken two hours to play, says the boxes should be moved back so that the catcher can give the pitcher his signals more quickly. From where they are now, he said, the coaching players can detect the catcher's signals unless he takes a lot of time to hide them. Navin said this slow signalling is the reason for the longer games (as noted by Lyle Spatz )

Thank you very much for your resume. I will contact you the first week in February.
Yes, you can let me know about Friday in the next day or two. If you can't make it this week, the invitation is always open to hang out & play with us. I saw you on stage recently, I think it was Dec.1 for the Nebraska competition, and I enjoyed listening to you play. You also played in a room I was in at the open jam on Saturday 12/17, and sounded real good.
By the way, our usual rehearsal night is Thursday. After this week, we're going back to Thursdays.
Thanks for the info on drummers.
See you soon.

2-Sound & Vision
4-Ashes to Ashes
Elvis would've been (is?) 71, Soupy Sales is 80!, Little Anthony is 65, Robbir Kreiger is 60 and David Bowie is 59. It would take too long to do a Top Five Favorite for each, so my Favorite for each:
1. His Latest Flame (Marie's The Name) - Elvis
2. The Mouse - Soupy Sales
3. I'm On The Outside (Looking In) - Little Anthony And The Imperials
4. Light My Fire - Doors
5. Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
For (five) Elvis on his birthday:
1-Don't Be Cruel
3-All Shook Up
An Elvis top 5 is rough:
That's All Right (Mama)
Good Rockin Tonight
Don't Be Cruel
Big Hunk of Love
Wear My Ring Around Your Neck
Hard Headed Woman
All Shook Up
I Can't Help Falling in Love With You
Shake Rattle and Roll
Rip It Up
Elvis is hardly known for Shake Rattle and Roll, but he has the best version I ever had. Unlike Bill Haley, he retained the grittiness of the original, but like Bill Haley he rocked it up. After hearing Elvis sing it, there was no point in even listening to anyone else.
Rip It Up is another great song is Elvis is not known for, but I think he did a great job singing it.

Happy Birthday, Stephen Stills, born, 1/3/45, John Paul Jones, born, 1/3/46 and George Martin, born, 1/3/26 .
Mit shnai ken men nit machen gomolkes?
Leave us not forget Sir George Martin (who turned 80!)(as I listen to Rubber Soul), John Paul Jones and Van Dyke Parks!
Below is my list of Masterpiece Albums (not to be confused with Masterpiece Theatre) for each:
1. Sir George Martin - Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
2. John Paul Jones - Their Satanic Majesties Request
3. Stephen Stills - Crosby, Stills and Nash
4. Van Dyke Parks - Smile
As for Stills, one album I would've like to have heard (my idea, I've never read this anywhere) is what I would've called "Three Ste(ph)vens From Texas, A Blues Extravaganza" with Miller, Vaughn and Stills...
Here a few I like.
Love the One You're With
Suite:Judy Blue Eyes
For What It's Worth
Rock and Roll Woman
Find the Cost of Freedom
Stephen Stills is a very talented musician. From the Springfield (1966) through CSN(Y) (1970) or so he was excellent. Unfortunately, with the exception of the occasional tune here or there his creativity dried up, partially due to getting into cocaine.
Hung upside Down, Sit Down, I think I love you, Bluebird.
